New Orleans, Louisiana
It's astonishingly beautiful and lively here. We are staying with friends in the Bywater, an older neighborhood, which is full of gorgeous old houses. The pink house in the middle picture is a shotgun house, and so is the one we're in, all the rooms laid end to end, like train cars. There are a lot of cats; one man said that his cat couldn't be found when they evacuated for Hurricane Katrina, and then when they came back the cat was ok, but he wouldn't come in the house anymore and was the ruler of all the cats on the block.
